Carlisle School was founded in 1968 by area business leaders, educators, and professional people in Martinsville, Virginia, who were interested in providing a community-based school which combined superior academics with high personal standards. Carlisle embraced the philosophy of offering a rigorous college-preparatory program and encouraging intellectual discipline and creativity; while also fostering the development of character and individual responsibility.
In September 1968, the school opened its doors for 81 students in grades 1-7. Today, Carlisle continues to provide a first class education to over 400 students in pre-school through grade 12. We are a regional school serving Danville, Virginia, Eden and Reidsville, North Carolina.
Outstanding Accreditations - First accredited in 1974, Carlisle School has since maintained its accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and is recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as an accredited school through the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE). Carlisle is a member in good standing of the National Association of Independent Schools. Carlisle's high school is an International Baccalaureate World School maintaining accredited certification and membership in the International Baccalaureate Organization. The VAIS, in its accreditation visit, commended Carlisle for its exceptional leadership and for its vision in moving the school to a higher level of academic excellence, ethnic diversity, and commitment to technology, and VAIS, in its most recent accreditation visit, commended Carlisle School for strong commitments to the arts and academic excellence.
Affordable - The founders of Carlisle School originally made a commitment to keep tuition as low as possible so that more deserving students would be able to afford what Carlisle offers. This policy has not changed in over thirty years. Now, more than ever, Carlisle stands above the competition in this region serving students regardless of their financial background. Carlisle Trustees continue to be committed to making Carlisle accessible to motivated, qualified students.
Among The Best Schools In The Nation - By every objective measurement, Carlisle School is among the best schools in the nation. Carlisle administers the Iowa Test each spring for students in first through eighth grades, and Carlisle School ranked in the 97th percentile in average student scores compared with public and private schools across the nation. Outstanding Iowa Test scores and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program scores give good insight as to how Carlisle students are doing compared to students nationwide or worldwide. Recognition for achievement in the performing arts and on the athletic fields round out the picture of a school that is far more than an academic institution. Carlisle students are a diverse group who thrive in the relaxed and supportive atmosphere of Carlisle School. As Carlisle enters the new millennium, Carlisle students are positioned to compete on even terms with the best students from around the world. School accreditations: NAIS, VAIS, SACS - Profile last updated: 02/06/2008
