During Boarding School |

Our social life was based around our activities and our meals. We had a choir, along with basketball being our main sport. There are not many specific clubs in the school. However, an elite group of students, along with staff, planned most our events. At the school. we enjoyed a fall festival along with banquets for Christmas, Valentines Day, as well as some special occasions such as international dinners cooked by some of our international students. I held no leadership positions of any note, mostly due to the fact that I don’t prefer those types of positions. Each year's senior class presents a play that shows the growth and skills of the senior class. It is a big production and many weeks are spent on getting it ready. I did the prop and sound work for my senior play titled "The Beams are Creaking", a work about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his work to subvert Hitler. There was a student store where we would purchase certain sweetened food items. A student body president is elected from the upper echelon of students and is given many responsibilities. A worship team is also a big part of the school I worked with the sound equipment and loved it. |

| 1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative
to other boarding schools?

| Oakdale is an interesting and solid school. I have not attended other boarding schools, yet I was home-schooled as a child and spent one year in the public school system. I found Oakdale to be refreshing from both. Their styles of teaching are engaging and straight to the point and you find yourself growing to love the teachers as well as loving their families. Oakdale also uses a work program to help build skills that can be used for later life development. When searching for work after graduating, I found myself able to place more things on my resume than I could have just graduating from public school or home-school. Their program is very work intensive and puts responsibility for everyday chores upon the students. This program in itself is a wonderful and helpful tool in the development of the student. The campus was just remodeled with new sidewalks and it looks wonderful. When you step onto the grounds you can feel a safety that is seldom found in other areas. |

| 2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school? |

| During my four years at Oakdale I learned to become a man and to grow past the insecurities of my youth. Oakdale was the best thing that ever happened to me, even though I fought being there for the first three years. I learned and excelled in the area of time management and many other skills. I won the award for perfect attendance during my sophomore and senior years. This school is a good and solid school. I would recommend it to any one who asked me. If I have children I plan to send them there. |

| 3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience? |
| |
| My life philosophy is to never wish to do anything over. Having lived thus far, I find myself stress free and more able to complete my daily work confidently. My general advice is to be yourself and to not let others look down upon you. Stand for yourself and support those who stand with you. I learned long ago that an honorable man is only he who would defend and die for all nations, tribes, and tongues. Working toward doing what you need to do is the best way to honor your family and yourself. |

| 4.) What did you like most about your school? |
| |
| I loved the school for what it was. "Home is where the heart is" is often quoted and so true. My heart lies within the hills of Kentucky and will forever remain there. |

| 5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school? |
| |
| The best place on campus for reflection is the old tree bench on the boy’s campus. On the girl's side, it is the bridge over the small creek.
My final words of wisdom are that when you don't take chances in life, have you really lived? I took this chance and I am now prepared to live my life with wisdom and power.

Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it? |

| The academics are top notch and very competitive. At the first of every week we are arranged in seated rows in reflection of our grades. This gives the students a chance to see how they are doing academically. Grade cards are handed out in the same chapel weekly. The teachers are caring and thorough in their work. Class sizes are small and well under that of public school or many larger institutions. Our diversity is very strong and arranged through many countries. We have students from Korea, China, and certain African countries as well as many students from the US. The classes are intensive, but encourage you to learn. The students are encouraged to excel and are often rewarded, when they do. The classes are also fun and engaging. The workload is light for some classes and for others it is heavy. Depending on your class standing you could have anywhere from an hour of homework to five or six hours. |

Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it? |

| The school participates in a basketball league and does very well. There are many students who enjoy soccer and play whenever they get the chance. A new gym facility was completed just two years ago. |

Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it? |
| |
| A school choir for all students and a drama class, for seniors only were both great opportunities. We also have a puppet troupe that travels locally and does shows for children and churches alike. It is all well organized and fun for the students. |

Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it? |
| |
| There is no end to volunteer opportunities at Oakdale. I volunteered my time to aid staff members in whatever they needed. I believe personally that the more a person volunteers the more he or she will grow and become a productive and functioning member of society. The school does not have a prom, but they do have a senior/junior banquet that acts as a prom. We had many extracurricular activities ranging from ball games to board games and many other things in-between. One staff member enjoys strategic board games and often gathers students to participate in that. |

Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it? |
| |
| Dorm life was a joy and a difficult experience. Living in the dorm with up to sixteen other guys can be a challenge. I personally don’t have any experience on the girl’s end of dorm life. The rooms are decently spacious and well stocked. The dorm deans select the rooms and students can often request other room assignments. That is based upon the dean of students deciding if it would be good for the development of both involved. Dorm selection is made by the Dean of Students and can be changed per the need of the situation. The dorm parents are well-trained and love to work with the students. A dorm snack is provided at night before bed to calm the rustling hunger of the growing teenagers. |

Describe the dining arrangements at your school. |

| Dining is first rate. We have two cooks who do an excellent and outstanding job in the preparation and execution of the food. During the week, breakfasts and lunches are provided per government regulations. At night a large array of different dishes is served. The weekend has some of the best meals of the week. A Sunday lunch is provided that mirrors that of quality family meals. Seating is based upon the decision of the dean of students. Lunch is open seating, but breakfast is split with the girls and boys being on their individual sides. |

| 1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area. |
| |
| The town near Oakdale is Jackson. It has a Wal-Mart and many other options for shopping. A town trip is provided every week or every two weeks. It’s a great little town with friendly people and a strong community spirit. |

| The social life of the school is controlled and vibrant. The students do enjoy sometime together outside of meals. All of it is regulated to provide a safe environment for growth. |
