Northfield Mount Hermon Photo #1 - NMH is a coed boarding school serving 650 students in grades 9-12. We also offer a postgraduate year. Our wooded campus borders the Connecticut River in western Massachusetts, and in this beautiful setting, we challenge young people to think hard, work hard, discover new talents, and hone the ones they already possess.

Northfield Mount Hermon Photo #2 - Our Partnership of 12 ensures that at least a dozen adults - advisors, teachers, coaches, dorm parents - have got your back. They're your own personal support network, helping you figure out and work toward your individual goals. We take on community issues, too, in small-group conversations about health and wellness, diversity and social justice, and other important topics.

Northfield Mount Hermon Photo #3 - If you're like most of our students, youll find that the best way to balance our intense academics is by embracing all sorts of other experiences. With 67 sports teams, 60 arts performances, and scores of clubs, organizations and volunteer activities, it's an experience of self-discovery, happening within a incredibly dynamic community.

Northfield Mount Hermon Photo #6 - Students can work on the farm located right on the NMH campus. Many of the vegetables grown there end up on students' plates at mealtime. We also make maple syrup and ice cream on the NMH farm.

It starts in small classes with some of the most dedicated and horizon-broadening teachers you'll ever meet. From there, things exponentially expand. So students explore each subject in greater depth and spend more time with their teachers. Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) is an independent boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12, plus a postgraduate year, located on a 1,353-acre campus in Massachusetts' Connecticut River Valley. We educate 630 students from 60 countries, and 34% of our domestic students are students of color.
At NMH, we help students discover their passions and instill a sense of purpose through an education for the head, heart, and hands. We empower students to learn with passion, lead with intention, and act with humanity, preparing them to be engaged citizens and leaders.

Under our distinctive College-Model Academic Program (CMAP), students take three major courses each semester, totaling six per year. Seventy-minute class periods allow time for deeper exploration and stronger teacher-student relationships. The average class size is 13, and the student-teacher ratio is 6 to 1. Our Advanced Scholars Program allows students to take on college-level work and real-world applications through project-based assessments.
Our program balances academics with athletics, arts, service, and student leadership activities. Students choose from numerous sports teams, performing arts groups, volunteer opportunities, and clubs, allowing them to pursue their passions and discover new interests.
Our campus life program integrates academic goals with residential experiences, creating a community where students engage with diverse identities and develop their worldviews in a spirit of dialogue.
