Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
The campus at IMG Academy is top of the line, you will never find anything like it, not in high schools, and not even in university. IMG Academy has over 500 acres of land, featuring a full 18 hole golf course, a running track, a stadium, basketball courts, over 20 soccer fields, and state of the art weight rooms. You never run out of things to do and even if you spend two years here, you still end up discovering new things everyday.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best thing that happened to me while I was at IMG is how successful I became at my sport. I started off being average or maybe even below average, but with the excellent help I had from my coaches, teachers, and athletic trainers I became more successful than I would've ever thought.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would've messed around less and focused more on what I was there to do. Improve. I only really started focusing my senior year and the improvements I saw over the months were unbelievable.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I like the vibes released from the students on campus, it feels like a close knit family because we're all at the school for the same reason, to excel at our sport.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Listen to your coaches, and do your best not to get distracted or negatively influenced certain people around you. Make smart choices and you will be successful.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Even though you only have 3 80 minute classes per day, you still learn the same amount at the same pace as a regular 8 hour day high school.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
It is unmatched by any other school in the country. Personally, on the track and field team, we have 4 coaches that have been to, or even medalled at competitions like the olympics, world championships, and the commonwealth games. With all their experience, they are able to make you the best athlete you can be. This goes for other sports too, tennis is coached by the great Nick Bollettieri, who coached Andre Aggasi, one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Football has former NFL players and coaches there everyday to help them.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
There is none. IMG academy is a strictly academic and athletics boarding school.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
There is a huge diversity of clubs and extracurricular activities that you can get involved in, with trips to Mexico every year to go and build houses, to the NHS, everybody will be able to find a club that they'll enjoy.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
It's two to a room, there is a boys dorm and a girls dorm, and a third dorm being build. All rooms come with a private bathroom with a shower. There is plenty of space in your room to have a desk, beanbag, and other miscellaneous items that one might want from their home. You can choose who your roommate is, but most of the time you get paired with someone on your athletics team. It is quite hard to switch rooms once you've moved in, but it is not impossible. The cafeteria closes at 7:30 every night so there is not much late night food access besides vending machines.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Breakfast runs from 6-8:30, lunch from 11-1, and dinner from 5-7:30. What I like most is the wide diversity of food that they serve to us. Different things everyday so it never gets boring. You may sit wherever you like, with the cafeteria featuring booths, and just regular tables.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Its a large town just south of Tampa. What I like most is that there are many things you can do within a few miles of the school. Movie theatres, bowling, go karting, minigolf, paintball, and much more. You never really run out of activities to do.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
If you are a part of a sports team, like I was, you become so close to your teammates that you become inseparable. Because you train with them, eat with them, sleep with them for months on end. While you're all away from your families, you become each others families, helping each other out when you need it the most
