Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Georgetown Prep's location allows for students to take advantage of a wide variety of activities in the Washington DC area. The extensive grounds of the campus offers students an opportunity to enjoy first class athletics, fine arts, and the chance to spend one on one time with teachers and faculty. Georgetown Prep attracts students from around the world and across the country offering an enriching academic and social environment.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
Prep offers a tremendous environment for students to grow and pursue their own passions. The transformation that occurs for students is truly incredible. Personally, the best friends I have made from around the world have made my experience so incredible.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
Be open minded and ready to be exposed to different cultures and ways of thinking. Be ready to grow and change in ways not yet expected. Be flexible!
4.) What did you like most about your school?
The campus is exceptional. The teachers are so very committed to our success and willing to work with us, especially given any extracurricular activities we may have.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Take advantage of all that the DC area has to offer. If you have a particular passion or interest, there is a faculty member who will support you to pursue your passion. Chances are also that you can find a Georgetown Prep alumni who is willing and eager to help you with whatever you need too.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The academics are rigorous, engaging and allow for each student to grow to their potential. The student to faculty ratio is very low and therefore all students have ready access to faculty. Students are able to develop a strong rapport with teachers who are very committed to their success. All faculty make themselves available before and after school to support students. The academic offerings are extensive and students are well prepared for college and beyond in very demanding and selective universities.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Nearly all students participate in athletics and there are offerings for every talent and level of skill. There is tremendous school spirit, with many of Georgetown Prep's teams achieving local and state rankings. Prep offers no-cut sports each season in addition to the competitive varsity level sports. Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
Prep has a robust fine arts, music and theater program. There are musical groups for every level of talent and interest, including our own recording studio on campus.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Prep offers so many extracurricular activities and if you can't find a group you are interested in, you can form one. All students are involved in clubs. Every student is engaged in volunteer service. There are mandatory requirements for every year, with the number of required hours increasing each year. However, Prep offers many opportunities for students to get involved and it's not hard at all to find a cause you are passionate about supporting. The school motto Men for Others is self evident with students heavily involved in giving back to local causes and international organizations too.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Georgetown Prep recently built a new state of the art dormitory which allows all four grades to live together with faculty. Residents are offered a wide variety of activities each weekend to include social, cultural, sporting, dining and entertainment options with their fellow residents and faculty. Residents have the chance to get to know the faculty and their families throughout the year. The faculty get to know residents very well and are focused on their well-being.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
All residents eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on campus. The dining staff are very kind and go out of their way to accommodate the food requirements and needs of each resident. In addition, staff offer dining options off campus each weekend in small settings and other late night food runs.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
The school campus is located in North Bethesda, Maryland which is a suburb of Washington, DC. The metro train and bus station is located just across from campus. It's easy to navigate the immediate neighborhoods which offer a variety of dining and entertainment options close by.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Georgetown Prep is very diverse in terms of student body. There is a good balance between social and academics. Although the school is a highly competitive and academically rigorous environment, there are many opportunities for students to enjoy themselves and let off steam.
