Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Lincoln Academy is located at a beautiful campus by the coast of Maine which makes it a very unique experience that not all boarding schools can offer and makes the experience for the international students much more involving in the American culture.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
Going to Lincoln Academy made me a whole new person, got me to be more outgoing, independent, mature. I did things I would have never imagined I could but pushed my limits thanks to new opportunities Lincoln Academy gave me that I never had before and explored a whole new world. At LA I met some of my best friends who after graduating im still in touch with, amazing adults always there to help and who became like family; teachers, dorm parents, dorm staff.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
My biggest advice will be to make friends from the school and not only the dorms. Dorm friends are easy to make since you live with them for extended periods of time, however day students you only have some time with them so try your hardest to approach them and become friends with them to get a full immersion in the area.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
The school life, always so active and fun, like homecoming, prom, just regular activities on campus like sport games, brings all members of the Lincoln County together. Also, the opportunities the school gives you to embrace who you are or who you want to be, and the connections you get to make with people from all over the world.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
I would totally recommend Lincoln Academy because even thought it might seem like a small town in the coast, it brings amazing experiences that you will never forget, excellent people who you will always be in touch with, a new perspective of life for sure. But most important, live every moment because it goes by too fast and live the experience to the fullest to get the most out of it.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I really liked how there is a very big variety of classes and a big range of levels in these classes for all students to fit in their wants and needs. There are multiple classes for sciences and all kinds of classes to develop artistic skills which is not always present in other countries.
Teachers are well prepared and ready to teach and help at any time if its needed. The workload always depends on what level class you are willing to take, increases with AP or honors classes but also depends on the teacher. However, it is always manageable.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Everyone is highly recommended to play a sport if you’re interested and there are a bunch of teams that you can join and not necessarily high level which makes it approachable to every athletic skill level. There are many sports for all seasons and people in the team are always welcoming for new students to join and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and represent the school. Depends on the sport but in my personal experience, competitiveness is to some extent present but there are good vibes on the teams.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
There are always a couple of shows throughout the year that the theatre extracurricular program does which are fun to watch and support the members.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
There are many extracurricular activities and programs that everyone is mandatory to get involved at some level, from outdoor activities to more chill and relaxing stuff. It is done for students to interact doing something different not only academics and also provides extra help in classes if it is needed. Math teams or debate teams are very popular for students who like to do that and are very good teams. There are so many clubs that try reaching everyone’s wants to make it the best experience.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Dorm life is like a second home after a short while, you get to hangout with amazing people that after a couple of weeks you get very close to as you spend most of your days with them. Dorm students or dorm parents become like family to the students which is an amazing help in the process of moving away from home. Room selection processes or roommate assignation is done by the dorm staff and it is unknown to the student until they get there. Rooms are fully equipped and are mostly spacious. The dorms is set up in to 5 different wings some only girls and others only boys and each wing has an adult responsible for emergencies.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
During the week days all students had breakfast and lunch in the schools cafeteria, there was an option of hot bar for the day and a salad bar where students get to choose for a sandwich or salad, and only dorm students get dinner, which was very good and we got the option to request something that we really liked or of our own countries. During the weekends dorm students get brunch and dinner which was very very good.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
The school is located at a very calm and pretty area very close to the ocean, there are some restaurants, coffee shops and some clothing or house stores to get things we need at walking distance, also there is a gym and grocery store very close too. Very close by there is the mills and the lake, and the beach is not far away for when it starts to get warmer.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
At first it might be intimidating talking to the day students, but I would totally recommend making friends from the local area in order to have a even more complex experience and get to know families of the area Everyone is very welcoming to international students and seem to be used to having international students around and always willing to help in difficult times when away from home. The best way to get to talk to day students is by joining clubs or even in class.
