Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
The mandatory volunteer work at my school features many interesting and varied options to choose from that all promote community engagement and hands on learning. For example my volunteer work consisted of working on English skills with U.S immigrants. It allowed me to engage with people outside my age group and learn more about the process of immigration.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
I'd say that transferring to this school is the best thing that has happened to me. My previous school was a nightmare and took a toll on my mental well-being. Now I can say I'm happier than ever in my current situation.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
My only advice for going to boarding school is to be open-minded and always listen to what others have to say. Living with people with whom you have no relation can sometimes be a little stressful, but if you remain calm, you'll have fun.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I appreciate our strong sense of community and our dedication to living an eco-friendly lifestyle. As a student living on campus, I value the flexible schedule and the permission to leave campus on weekends and once during the week. This freedom helps us transition to the college lifestyle. In addition, I believe CSW offers an exceptional college preparation and senior year program to help students complete their high school years.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
I highly recommend trying everything at the dining hall all the food is so good!
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
CSW offers a wide variety of classes for different interests. I like how you can choose both elective and required classes, and create your schedule for junior and senior years. Each class is unique and enjoyable, and the workload is similar to that of other schools, with daily homework. The schedule includes three 90-minute academic classes each day, which may seem long, but time flies, and there's always a break between classes.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The athletics program always has space for everyone, which I love most. In some sports, there are even developmental teams for new players or for those who prefer a less competitive playing field while still getting exercise. There are a variety of non-sport athletic extracurriculars to choose from, such as Pilates and cardio boxing, which offer different ways to earn sports credits. All the sports facilities are spectacular, with regular maintenance, and the coaches are very encouraging and push you to improve.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The art programs at school are diverse due to the sizable art department. There are foundational classes like painting and photography, as well as more unique ones such as theater lighting techniques or pottery. All the courses are well-organized and offer many engaging experiences, with the chance to display your work at the end of each class.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
I appreciate the wide range of extracurricular activities available and their diversity. These activities encompass athletics, the arts, and other fascinating options. The presence of Affinity and Alliances spaces, along with numerous clubs, ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
The dorm life is great. Each room has a maximum of two people, allowing you to choose your roommate based on the qualities you prefer. You can also prioritize the attributes of the dorm you want and rank your preferences for different dorms. Some dorms always have free snacks available for residents.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The food quality and diversity are excellent. There is a hot lunch with both regular and vegetarian/vegan options, a salad and sandwich bar, and a ramen bar, providing a wide array of choices. You can eat your lunch anywhere from classrooms to the dining hall and other designated spaces, with the only requirement being to return your plate to the dining hall. Additionally, the amount of time given for meals is also very reasonable.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
There are several conveniences near the school, such as a square with some stores and a grocery store, which is about a 15-minute walk and very useful to have. The towns of Weston and Waltham are generally peaceful and offer lovely scenery as well.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Over time, you get to interact with a lot of different people. It's easy to make friends and find your circle. Everyone is so welcoming as well.
